TITLE: Ultralife Batteries Introduces New 15 / 30-Volt Lithium Ion Rechargeable Battery
RELEASE DATE: 06/22/2004
CONTENT:
Meets Immediate Needs of Customers

NEWARK, N.Y. – June 22, 2004 -- Ultralife Batteries (NASDAQ: ULBI), a leading designer and manufacturer of long-lasting, high-energy batteries and power sources for military, commercial and consumer markets, has introduced a Lithium Ion rechargeable battery designed to meet the immediate needs of customers looking to power current and next-generation portable electronic devices. The UBI-2590 Lithium Ion rechargeable battery, with two independent 15-volt sections, each with separate protection electronics and capacity gauges, enables users to operate the battery in either 15-volt or 30-volt modes. Like all Ultralife batteries, the UBI-2590 has high rate capability, is lightweight, has high energy density, long operating life, long shelf life, and operates in a wide range of temperatures.

Initially developed for rugged applications in the defense and homeland security markets, the size, weight and convenient form factor of the UBI-2590 have been extremely advantageous to developers in many commercial markets such as scientific research and surveillance. Its common voltages, coupled with its light weight and high energy density have made it an attractive design solution for developers needing immediate power solutions. Ralph Wise, Ultralife’s rechargeable batteries product manager said, "The UBI-2590 is a readily available design solution that offers product developers a convenient power solution for their rechargeable applications. With multiple chargers and cables available, the UBI-2590 has the convenience and capability to address the many current and future applications our customers have in development."

In many instances, the UBI-2590 can reduce total cost of ownership by offering more capacity per unit volume than Nickel-Cadmium and Nickel-Metal Hydride battery chemistries. Increased capacity not only means more power per battery, it means reductions in storage and logistics costs. It is in these areas where many customers recognize a significant decrease in cost of ownership.

Applications for the UBI-2590 have been spread over many markets including defense, law enforcement, homeland security, scientific research, medical, surveillance, and mining. Particular applications include military radios and communication devices, power grid surveillance sensors, remote data collection devices, video detection systems and various remote scientific monitoring devices.

The UBI-2590 is available immediately. For additional information, see the UBI-2590 Technical Data Sheet: http://www.ultralifebatteries.com/documents/techsheets/UBI-5107_UBI-2590.pdf. A commercial battery charger is available as well as ruggedized 2 and 6-bay chargers (and cables).

Technical Details
Typical voltage for the UBI-2590 is 14.4 or 28.8 Volts. Its capacity in the 15-volt mode is 12.0 Ah @ 1A @ 23°C and 6.0 Ah @ 500 mA @ 23°C in the 30-volt mode. The battery has a maximum weight of 1440 grams and has an operating temperature range of –20°C to 60°C.
