Ultralife Powers Land Warrior-Stryker Interoperable Program

In February 2004, Ultralife was awarded a development contract from General Dynamics for rechargeable lithium ION batteries (and charger systems) and non-rechargeable lithium batteries.

The batteries will be used to power the first integrated Soldier system that includes everything an Infantry Soldier wears or carries in the battlefield. Land Warrior combines computers, lasers, geo-location, and embedded voice and data communications with a Soldiers' mission equipment. The integration of these capabilities enhances the individual Soldier's close combat tactical awareness, lethality, and survivability.

The basic Land Warrior suit includes weapons, sensors such as laser rangefinder and day/night cameras, clothing, protection system integrated with load carrying equipment, and headgear, based on a helmet, equipped with integrated speaker, microphone and optical display. The system's hub is the mission computer that interfaces with all system's components via a 10 port hub. The computer links directly with the squad communications and 'leader communications' systems; it also manages the system's sensors and displays, runs various navigation and situational display functions and as well as display and power management. The system can be powered by rechargeable or non-rechargeable batteries with mission endurance of 6 – 10 hours.

Why Use Ultralife?

Ultralife has a long and strong history with the military and major defence contractors. Plus our Systems Design group has been set up specifically to tackle development projects like those awarded from General Dynamics.

Our Systems Design group can design, develop, test and deliver custom power systems that may include:

• Cells & Batteries
• Circuitry
• Connectors & Cables
• Chargers
• Software Integration

This group has been assembled for the sole purpose of developing complete power systems for customers with unique applications and challenges. We begin with a thorough analysis of each power system needs and develop detailed specifications based on application requirements. Each assignment follows strict project management phases including specifying, prototyping, pre-production and production – each with its own review stage and key milestone tracking.

Whether it’s a rechargeable or non-rechargeable solution, whether smart charging or custom circuitry is required, whether unique form factors or cabling is required – our Technology & Power System group can deliver.
